CEBU CITY (Updated) — The bodies of Captain Jessup Bahinting and Nepalese flight student Kshitiz Chand arrived at the Mactan Cebu International Airport on Thursday, five days after the plane they were riding crashed in the waters off Masbate Bay, also killing Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Bahinting’s body arrived at 8 a.m., while Chand’s remains arrived at 3:16 p.m.
Both bodies were brought to St. Peter’s Funeral Homes at New Imus St. in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City.
Meanwhile, Aviatour human resources manager Michelle Ferol said Aviatour instructors and staff will receive their salaries while the company’s operations are under suspension.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) has grounded all of Aviatour’s aircraft, pending an inspection to determine the condition of the planes.

Captain Antonio Jureidini, Aviatour’s flight safety director, said the Caap’s order to suspend the operation of the company’s aircraft is standard procedure.
“We are very confident that during the investigation, we can prove that our pilots, aircraft and equipment are in excellent condition,” Jureidini said.
An aircraft of Cheyn Air brought Bahinting’s body to Cebu from Masbate.
Bahinting’s wife Margarita became emotional on seeing the body bag that contained Jessup’s remains but she was calm when she arrived at St. Peter Funeral Homes.
Margarita even answered a few questions from reporters.
She said the family has yet to set the time of the burial on Monday because they still do not know what time her children, Jemar and Bryan, will arrive from the United States.
Margarita also revealed that she would not look at her husband’s remains.
“I really miss him. But I don’t want to see his face (like that), I want to remember him when he was still alive,” she said.
Resort
The body of Bahinting was placed in a navy blue casket, while that of Chand was placed in white casket.
On Sunday morning, Bahinting’s remains will be brought to the family’s resort in Ginatilan, where he will be buried on Monday.
Chand’s remains, on the other hand, will remain at St. Peter for one night before he will be flown to Nepal.
Ferol said they are making arrangements to transport Chand’s remains to Nepal today (Friday) or tomorrow (Saturday).
She added that it might be difficult to get commercial flights to agree to transport Chand’s body because it is decomposing.
Flowers
City Traffic Operations Management board chairman Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem said he and some pilots want to give tribute to Bahinting by dropping flowers from the air. He added that six private planes and a chopper will participate in the floral offering.
Aviatour, the company Jessup established, runs a flight school and offer aerial tours.
It also sells aircraft.
Ferol said the flight school has more than 100 students at present and all of them are foreigners.
She added that the flight school would survive despite Jessup’s death because it has competent instructors.
Anti-venom
Masbate Governor Rizalina Lanete told Sun.Star Cebu that she is saddened by Bahinting’s death as well.
She said someone was bitten by a cobra in Masbate on Thursday but they have no one like Bahinting, who offered the use of his aircraft to transport the anti-venom from Camiguin for free.
The governor said they eventually found an anti-venom within Masbate.
One of Aviatour’s pilots is Nigerian national Habib David Yakubo, who transported the anti-venom from Camiguin to Cebu to treat a Cebu City Zoo worker who got bitten by a cobra.

CLARK FREEPORT – Thousands are expected to participate in the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) ‘human chain’ fund-raising project for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Sendong.
The event on December 28, dubbed as “Clark CARES: Human Chain for Typhoon Sendong Victims,” at 6 p.m. in the Fort Stotsenberg Parade Grounds is expected to gather all CDC employees and workers from Clark-based investors and locators.
Clark workers, together with local government units (LGU) employees and residents around the Freeport, will form a heart-shaped human chain to express strength and solidarity for families in the Southern Philippines, whose lives were severely affected by Sendong’s fury.
CDC President Felipe Antonio B. Remollo said employees of the state-owned corporation have already gathered donations both in cash and in kind immediately after Sendong devastated parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, leaving a death toll of more than 1,000 casualties.
Remollo added that the human chain project also aims to serve as a venue to gather and send more donations and other forms of assistance coming from Clark firms, public and private agencies, LGUs, and concerned citizens to Sendong-ravaged areas.

CEBU CITY — The Philippine Navy recovered Thursday morning another body off the waters of Masbate, but identity has yet to be confirmed.
Technical divers retrieved Wednesday the body of Captain Jessup Bahinting, one of the pilots of the ill-fated twin-engine Piper Seneca. Bahinting’s Nepalese co-pilot Kshitiz Chand remains missing as of Wednesday.

PERSONAL remittances from overseas Filipinos went up by 5.3 percent to $11.3 billion during the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2011, the central bank said on Wednesday.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. said that for June alone, the money sent home by Filipinos abroad hit $2 billion, 4.2 percent higher from the level posted in the same month a year ago.
“The steady uptrend recorded during the six-month period was supported by higher personal remittances from land-based overseas Filipinos with work contracts of one year or more (by 2.7 percent), as well as sea-based workers and land-based workers with short-term contracts (by 13.7 percent),” he said.
Meanwhile, Tetangco said cash remittances coursed through banks totaled $10.1 billion in the first half of 2012, posting a year-on-year growth of 5.1 percent.
Of the total amount, fund transfers from land-based workers amounted to $7.8 billion and sea-based workers to $2.3 billion, increments of 2.8 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively.
Major sources of remittances during the first six months of the year were the United States (42.8 percent), Canada (9.6 percent), Saudi Arabia (7.6 percent), Japan (5.0 percent), the United Kingdom (4.8 percent), Singapore (4.2 percent), and the United Arab Emirates (4.1 percent). (SDR/Sunnex)
