Olongapo seniors can now watch movies for free

OLONGAPO City: Senior citizen in the city can now watch movies for free on selected days at Times Squares Cinemas located inside Subic Bay Freeport.
Olongapo City Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. said Time Square Cinemas was the first to act in response to his letter asking theater operators for free movie viewing for senior citizens.
He explained that the city passed city resolution No. 116, series of 2011, requesting all cenema operators to grant complimentary admission for Olongapo City senior citizens.
Roldan Escala, manager of Times Square Cinemas explained that the free admission can be availed during the first movie screening every Mondays and Tuesdays.
“All they need to do is come to the cinema and present their ID’s,” Escala said.

Subic regatta goes green

SUBIC Bay Freeport: The Lighthouse Marina Resort will be hosting the first ever Columbia Recyclable Regatta here in Subic Bay. Aptly called, “Columbia Recyclable Regatta”, this unique boat race aims to promote concern for the environment, a better understanding of recycling, and developing a love for the outdoors, while still keeping things fun.
Different schools, organizations, and companies have been tapped to take part in this event to help create better awareness for the benefit of recycling in their respective areas. This event will also prompt the start of Columbia’s “Recycling Talks” for schools and organizations.
As this event is heavily focused on recycling, the main requirement for those participating in the recyclable regatta is for all boats to be made of at least 80% recycled materials. The execution of this is simply based on creativity and ingenuity. Participants are encouraged to find an innovative and resourceful way to transform recyclable materials into a fully functional watercraft for the regatta.
The Lighthouse Marina Resort In cooperation with Philippine Dragon Boat Federation and UP Mountaineering are building two boats made entirely of recyclable materials. One of the main materials of the boat are slippers that Team Lighthouse found in Capones Island in San Antonio, Zambales last April 27, 2012 during a coast cleanup drive in celebration of the recent Earth Day which is also in line with The Lighthouse’s “Save Capones Island” campaign.
In this race, participants must paddle their recycled watercrafts over a 200-meter course on the seafront of The Lighthouse Marina Resort in Subic. This match is open to teams of two (either under the “Mens” or “Mixed” categories), of all ages and professions, so everyone is encouraged to join. Cash prizes and Columbia gift certificates await the winners.

Dole ends labor month with ‘run for a cause’

CLARK FREEPORT — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Central Luzon culminated the month-long celebration of Labor Day on Tuesday with a tripartite run-for-a-cause at the parade grounds of this Freeport.
Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said some 250 runners joined the 2.5-kilometer (2.5K) fun run dubbed “Pulayan Para Queng Cabiayan 2012,” which was staged in partnership with the Pampanga Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (PTIPC); the Tripartite Council in Business Process Outsourcing and Information Communications Technology TC and the Clark Development Corporation (CDC).
Agravante said the fun run was aimed to “foster camaraderie between government, employers and workers to harmonize industrial relations in Central Luzon.”
“We are all here to further strengthen our collaborative efforts in establishing not only a productive workforce, but also a sound partnership among members of the labor and management groups, as we run towards a common goal, that is, to uphold industrial peace and harmony in all workplaces, particularly in the province of Pampanga,” he said.
The participants, according to Agravante, came from the different tripartite groups in the province, including top management, unions officials, CDC officials, representatives from Public Employment Service Office of Pampanga and professional and amateur runners.
Proceeds of the run for a cause, from the P400 registration fee per runner, will directly go to the various programs and projects of the PTIPC.
Allan Del Rosario, president of the PTIPC, said that the P30,000 generated from the fun run will go to the PTIPC Funds intended to fuel the council’s pipelined socio-economic programs and projects geared towards alleviating the plight of every worker in the province.
Among the projects are continuous education on paralegal for its members, medical missions, adopt-a-school sponsorship, education plans for children of low-income workers, feeding programs for street children and corporate social services.
Winners of the fun run, in the male category, were Jonifer Lacanlale of the CDC; Danilo Tiglao, Jr. of the Holy Family Academy; and Rushel Gonzales. In the female category, lead runners were Ana Marie Tiotuico of ACCESS; Mercedes Abasolo of the CDC; and Priscilla Hernandez, also from CDC.

Pact forged to build rural health units

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The National Government, through the Department of Health (DOH) and Capitol, have agreed to jointly construct 14 rural health units in the flooded towns of the province.

This initiative is aimed at strengthening the capability of various rural health units in terms of delivering basic health needs of the people.
Governor Lilia Pineda said the construction of these rural health units is significant for patients with minor ailments who need not go to district hospitals.
Kapampangans will be provided basic medical assistance at the health centers, which are more accessible.
Pineda earlier disclosed that various district hospitals also received funding from the National Government for the construction of birthing stations, among other additional buildings.
It was learned that rural health units in Angeles City, Apalit, Candaba, Macabebe, Masantol, Mexico, City of San Fernando, Sta. Ana and Sta. Rita were provided some P32 million for expansion, repair, renovation and equipping projects.
Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, Central Luzon center for health director, pointed out that partnership between the DOH and the Capitol is a welcome development which may lead to quality and comprehensive health services for Kapampangans.

Aetas get training on wellness massage

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pampanga Provincial Manpower Training Center (PMTC) recently disclosed that some members of the indigenous community in Floridablanca town completed their training on wellness massage.
PMTC officer-in-charge Francis Maslog said 19 Aetas from the upland community underwent a five-day skills training on arm, foot, hand, head, facial, leg and back wellness massage.
He said the activity aims to provide additional source of income for the Aetas, and to further boost the development and promotion of Barangay Nabuclod as an ideal eco-tourism destination.
With this, local and foreign tourists who visit the Nabuclod ecotourism adventure site in Floridablanca could now look forward to a relaxing wellness massage.
“The training graduates are scheduled to further undergo the required medical check-up at the Romana Pangan District Hospital in Floridablanca,” Maslog stated.
The livelihood project is in close coordination with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Public Employment Services Office (Peso) and the Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO).
Meanwhile, Peso and PCEDO are set to provide the necessary assistance to ensure the organization of the Nabuclod Massage Therapist Association and train its members on entrepreneurship development.
Maslog claimed that once the said association is formally organized and necessary requirements and trainings are completed, corresponding massage fees shall be charged and the center’s management and supervision be turned over to the concerned indigenous peoples in the community.
