FORMER President Fidel Ramos took the time off from his busy schedule to grace the opening of the 75th University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Saturday at the state-of-the-art Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Ramos, the guest of honor of host National University (NU), also delighted the crowd with his signature jump he made 26 years ago during the Edsa People Power Revolution, which toppled the dictatorial rule of then President Ferdinand Marcos.
Wearing a blue and yellow polo shirt, the former President did the famous jump when his presence was acknowledged by NU president Nilo Ocampo to the delight of thousands of paying fans, students and alumni.
Ramos took up civil engineering at NU in 1946 but he failed to finish the degree when he went to the United States as a scholar at world-renowned West Point military academy.
Lasting for nearly an hour, this year’s opening rites was peppered with indoor fireworks display and hip-hop performances from eight member-schools.

MANILA — Fans of the late Comedy King Dolphy lined up under the heat at the Heritage Park in Taguig City on Saturday, the last day of the public viewing of the actor’s remains.

A necrological mass, sponsored by Zsa Zsa Padilla’s “ASAP” family, will be held at the memorial chapel Saturday night. It will be followed by another eulogy arranged by Dolphy’s contemporaries and other comedians he worked with over the years. Another necrological service is scheduled on Sunday morning.
Dolphy’s burial on Sunday will not be open to the public but the Quizon family has allowed live media coverage. Navy tries to get picture of stuck Chinese gunship
MANILA (Updated 1:45 p.m.) – The Naval forces is yet to have a visual confirmation of the Chinese ship that ran aground at a shoal at the disputed Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea near Palawan province, a top official said Saturday.
The Sydney Morning Herald earlier said the Chinese ship, a Jianghu-class frigate no. 560, ran aground at the unoccupied Half Moon Shoal or Hasa-hasa shoal on Thursday night. It said the ship remains “thoroughly stuck.”
Commodore Rustom Peña, commander of the Naval Forces West, said they sent a team to Halfmoon Shoal on Saturday to augment the Coast Guard that has dispatched a team to the area.
“As of now we are preparing our assets. We still don’t have a visual confirmation. As of now, I cannot give statements; I have yet to confirm (the incident). There is still no visual,” Peña said.
Peña said the undisclosed Navy assets may arrive at the shoal, about 60 nautical miles from Rizal town in Palawan, Saturday afternoon.
He said he only learned from the media that China had already confirmed that one of its frigates was stuck at the shoal.
“As far as we are concerned, the Coast Guard sent (assets there), they’re on the way there and our (Navy) assets are ready. If they (China) are in distress there, we will try to provide assistance. That is our task there,” said Peña.
A military source earlier said the stuck Chinese ship had been frequently monitored to be moving around the Chinese-occupied Mischief and Subi reefs and at the unoccupied Quirino Atoll. He surmised that the ship’s area of responsibility is the Spratly Islands.
Hasahasa shoal is part of the Spratlys, a chain of islands and islets believed to be rich in oil and mineral deposits, that is being claimed by the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei. MANILA (3rd Update, 1:16 p.m.) — Chinese Navy ships safely removed one of China’s warships Sunday from a disputed shoal off the western Philippines where it had run
The warship will sail back to port with minor damage, and no crew member was injured, Chinese Embassy spokesman Zhang Hua said in a statement.
The frigate got stuck Wednesday night on Half Moon Shoal, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the western Philippine province of Palawan, prompting China and the Philippines to send rescue ships there.
Both the Philippines and China were already locked in a tense dispute over another shoal off the northwestern Philippines. The South China Sea is a flashpoint in diplomatic relations, with various Asian nations claiming whole or part of its islands and waters.
Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama said at least six Chinese Navy ships and vessels, along with smaller utility boats, helped refloat the stalled frigate.
Filipino coast guard search and rescue vessels had been deployed near the scene to help if needed, he said.
The Philippine government welcomed the success of the refloating efforts, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez said.
The DFA said, however, that it will investigate the circumstances that led to the accident, which happened well within the country’s territorial waters.
“We need to find out what really happened with the Chinese frigate in our territory,” Hernandez said on Saturday.
The Chinese frigate had apparently been sailing in Malaysian and Philippine waters before the accident, according to a Philippine military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Brigadier General Elmer Amon, deputy chief of the Philippine military’s Western Command, said Filipino vessels would continue to monitor the shoal amid the continuing presence of Chinese Navy ships in the area.
The accident followed a tense months-long naval standoff in another disputed area in the South China Sea. The Philippines accused Chinese fishermen of poaching in its waters at Scarborough Shoal.
The shoal where the warship ran aground is called Hasa Hasa by the Philippines and claimed by China as part of the Nansha island chain, known internationally as the Spratlys.
The Spratly islands are a major cluster of potentially oil- and gas-rich islands and reefs long disputed by China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei.
Chinese and Philippine officials are still negotiating an end to a tense maritime dispute over the Scarborough Shoal, about 700 kilometers (400 miles) away, which has been going on for more than three months.

MANILA — A policeman was reportedly relieved from his post for allegedly refusing to make way to the convoy of President Benigno Aquino III along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City Tuesday.
The policeman was identified as Senior Police Officer 2 Ricardo Pascua.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the incident happened when the President was on his way back to Malacanang after attending the inauguration of the second phase of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s (MWSS) Angat Water Utilization and Aqueduct Improvement Project (AWUAIP) at the La Mesa Dam Portal in Lagro, Quezon City.
“We understand that there was a policeman who was driving a red Tamaraw and apparently the convoy was already on the way back,” Lacierda said.
“I think that’s somewhere in the House of Representatives area and the policeman was quite arrogant in insisting that he be allowed to do a U-turn whereas the convoy was already going straight. In fact, we understand that he even showed a badge to the motorcycle cops who were escorting the convoy,” he further said.
Lacierda refused to confirm that Pascua was sacked, saying that he was turned over to the Quezon City police department.
“We leave the administrative supervision of that policeman to the Quezon City police department,” Lacierda said
He added that Presidential Security Group Commander Brigadier General Ramon Matteo Dizon said that he filed a report to the Quezon City police for “disciplinary action.”
Dizon said he wondered why Pascua had refused to make way for the President’s convoy adding that he should have respected it.

MANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) spotted in Central Luzon has a chance to develop into a cyclone, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.
Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 2 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA was sighted at 1,030 kilometers east of Central Luzon, too far to affect weather conditions in Luzon.
He said the LPA has the possibility to turn into a tropical cyclone because it is still on the sea as it gains strength.
“Once the LPA develops into a tropical depression and enters the Philippine territory, it will be named ‘Ferdie,’ and will be the sixth weather disturbance to enter the country’s area of responsibility this year,” Aurelio said.
He said a weak southwest monsoon will affect Luzon.
Aurelio said temperature in Metro Manila may range from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius and it will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers.
In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
“Residents living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes are advised to be alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides,” Pagasa said.
The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Provincial Government has provided financial assistance to at least 51 villages in Macabebe and Masantol towns, amounting to P255,000, for disaster preparation and other related activities.
The awarding of checks was spearheaded by Governor Lilia Pineda in two separate simple ceremonies attended by municipal and village officials the other day.
They were received by the Association Barangay Captains (ABC) presidents in behalf of their members.
The villages in the town of Macabebe got a total share of P125,000 while those in Masantol received P130,000.
As this developed, the village chieftains expressed their gratitude to Governor Pineda for her continuing support and assistance to the flood-affected families.
The financial assistance shall also be used in monitoring and assessment activities relating to disaster preparation and mitigation efforts.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Provincial Health Office chief, reiterated his call for the public to remain vigilant on possible threats that might be brought about by water-borne diseases this rainy season.
“Inuulit ko yung warning natin lalo na sa residente dyan sa 4th District kung saan marami sa mga kababayan natin ang nakakaranas ng pagbaha. Mag-ingat po tayo sa mga sakit na pwede nating makuha dito,” Jaochico said.
He explained that if residents are not cautious this rainy season, there will be a high probability that they may suffer from various diseases.
Among the prevalent diseases during this season are dengue, leptospirosis, influenza and diarrhea.
In the City of San Fernando, a doctor who refused to be identified said there are about 40 dengue cases recorded in different villages here. This includes two fatalities from the villages of Sta. Lucia and Quebiawan.
In Sto. Tomas town, earlier reports recorded 30 individuals from Purok 1 in Moras Dela Paz village afflicted with dengue, with one casualty.
Mayor Joselito Naguit said the dengue outbreak is under control.
But a resident from Sto. Tomas said, “Dito po sa amin umabot na sa 40 ang nagkaroon ng dengue.”
“Isa pang dapat pag ingatan ng mga residente, lalo na yung nasa coastal towns, ay yung leptospirosis. Ito ay nakukuha sa ihi ng daga at posibling kumapit sa open wounds kapag lumulusong sa tubig baha,” Jaochico added.
“Residents from these flood-prone areas need to be properly informed on how the disease could be contracted,” the PHO chief said.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO– An executive of a financing firm who was shot in front of his house by still unidentified assailants is now in critical condition.
Initial reports provided by police identified the victim as one Edgar Mallari of San Fernando Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Investigators said around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Mallari was backing up his car from his garage when unidentified men wearing bonnets shot the victim thrice, one hitting him in the head.
Mallari was rushed to the Makabali Medical Center in this city where he is currently at the intensive care unit.
Operatives and investigators are still conducting follow-up operations and are looking at two angles.
“One may be related to his work and the other is regarding an alleged controversial land dispute in the barangay,” investigators said

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Warrants of arrest for three suspected killers of 24-year-old Raffy “Bidu” Juico are now being prepared after being identified by informants.
Juico went missing on June 29 this year and his “chopped” body was found buried inside a grassy portion of the Muslim Community in Cutud recently.
The names of the suspects are being withheld pending the serving of the arrest warrants, Muslim Community head Salman Ampuan said.
Ampuan, together with Muslim Affairs Community chairman Tammy Pagumpatun and other officials, met Governor Lilia Pineda at the Capitol on Monday to clarify their position.
He said they and the victim’s kin had agreed to jointly solve the case of Juico.
“Kami po ang pinagbibintangan nila. Wala kaming kinalaman diyan. Ang suspetsa namin ay droga ang problema. Pero sabi namin tutulong kami sa paghanap ng hustisya para kay Juico and we will let the process take its course,” Ampuan said.
Governor Pineda said she is not in the position to meddle in the case as she respects Mayor Oscar Rodriguez who has jurisdiction over the incident.
“Nirerespeto ko si Mayor Oca na siyang may jurisdiction dito. Ang sa akin lang ay dapat matigil na ang ganito at mabigyan ng hustisya ang biktima. I am sure si Mayor Oca ay tutugunan ito. Pantay-pantay lamang tayo, Muslim man o Kristiyano at kami ay handang tumulong sa inyo,” said Pineda.

CLARK FREEPORT – Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin has urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to fast-track the construction of the railway connecting Clark to Metro Manila as more airlines began serving local and international flights at the Clark International Airport (CIA).
Lazatin said Transportation and Communications Sec. Mar Roxas should exhaust all means to ensure the completion of the stalled Northrail project.
“A fast train should also be considered to ferry CIA passengers to and from Metro Manila,” said Lazatin.
In his earlier speech at the CIA, Roxas said Aquino has remained supportive of developments at Clark and its airport but admitted that the Northrail project “is back at the drawing board.”
The Northrail will connect Metro Manila to Clark, starting from Caloocan City.
Lazatin said “transportation via land, sea and air is important” in pushing for major developments.
“We don’t need to stress that the creation of Northrail will boost tremendous economic activities, especially in my district,” said Lazatin, whose jurisdiction includes Mabalacat, Angeles City and Magalang. Clark’s developed area of over 4,600 hectares is concentrated in Mabalacat and Angeles.
Lazatin said new airlines operating at Clark, including Philippines AirAsia and Hong-Kong-based Dragonair and AirPhil Express, “are very much welcome in Pampanga.”
He added that these airlines will help intensify major developments in Mabalacat under Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales.
The said town is set to be a city pending a plebiscite on July 21.
“I also asked residents to give their suggestions on how to better prepare Clark and its surrounding communities as more planes and their passengers are expected to land and stay in Pampanga,” said Lazatin.

Wearing a blue and yellow polo shirt, the former President did the famous jump when his presence was acknowledged by NU president Nilo Ocampo to the delight of thousands of paying fans, students and alumni.
Ramos took up civil engineering at NU in 1946 but he failed to finish the degree when he went to the United States as a scholar at world-renowned West Point military academy.
Lasting for nearly an hour, this year’s opening rites was peppered with indoor fireworks display and hip-hop performances from eight member-schools.

MANILA — Fans of the late Comedy King Dolphy lined up under the heat at the Heritage Park in Taguig City on Saturday, the last day of the public viewing of the actor’s remains.

Dolphy’s burial on Sunday will not be open to the public but the Quizon family has allowed live media coverage. Navy tries to get picture of stuck Chinese gunship
MANILA (Updated 1:45 p.m.) – The Naval forces is yet to have a visual confirmation of the Chinese ship that ran aground at a shoal at the disputed Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea near Palawan province, a top official said Saturday.
The Sydney Morning Herald earlier said the Chinese ship, a Jianghu-class frigate no. 560, ran aground at the unoccupied Half Moon Shoal or Hasa-hasa shoal on Thursday night. It said the ship remains “thoroughly stuck.”
Commodore Rustom Peña, commander of the Naval Forces West, said they sent a team to Halfmoon Shoal on Saturday to augment the Coast Guard that has dispatched a team to the area.
“As of now we are preparing our assets. We still don’t have a visual confirmation. As of now, I cannot give statements; I have yet to confirm (the incident). There is still no visual,” Peña said.
Peña said the undisclosed Navy assets may arrive at the shoal, about 60 nautical miles from Rizal town in Palawan, Saturday afternoon.
He said he only learned from the media that China had already confirmed that one of its frigates was stuck at the shoal.
“As far as we are concerned, the Coast Guard sent (assets there), they’re on the way there and our (Navy) assets are ready. If they (China) are in distress there, we will try to provide assistance. That is our task there,” said Peña.
A military source earlier said the stuck Chinese ship had been frequently monitored to be moving around the Chinese-occupied Mischief and Subi reefs and at the unoccupied Quirino Atoll. He surmised that the ship’s area of responsibility is the Spratly Islands.
Hasahasa shoal is part of the Spratlys, a chain of islands and islets believed to be rich in oil and mineral deposits, that is being claimed by the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei. Stalled Chinese warship rescued from disputed shoal

MANILA (3rd Update, 1:16 p.m.) — Chinese Navy ships safely removed one of China’s warships Sunday from a disputed shoal off the western Philippines where it had run
The warship will sail back to port with minor damage, and no crew member was injured, Chinese Embassy spokesman Zhang Hua said in a statement.
The frigate got stuck Wednesday night on Half Moon Shoal, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the western Philippine province of Palawan, prompting China and the Philippines to send rescue ships there.
Both the Philippines and China were already locked in a tense dispute over another shoal off the northwestern Philippines. The South China Sea is a flashpoint in diplomatic relations, with various Asian nations claiming whole or part of its islands and waters.
Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama said at least six Chinese Navy ships and vessels, along with smaller utility boats, helped refloat the stalled frigate.
Filipino coast guard search and rescue vessels had been deployed near the scene to help if needed, he said.
The Philippine government welcomed the success of the refloating efforts, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez said.
The DFA said, however, that it will investigate the circumstances that led to the accident, which happened well within the country’s territorial waters.
“We need to find out what really happened with the Chinese frigate in our territory,” Hernandez said on Saturday.
The Chinese frigate had apparently been sailing in Malaysian and Philippine waters before the accident, according to a Philippine military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Brigadier General Elmer Amon, deputy chief of the Philippine military’s Western Command, said Filipino vessels would continue to monitor the shoal amid the continuing presence of Chinese Navy ships in the area.
The accident followed a tense months-long naval standoff in another disputed area in the South China Sea. The Philippines accused Chinese fishermen of poaching in its waters at Scarborough Shoal.
The shoal where the warship ran aground is called Hasa Hasa by the Philippines and claimed by China as part of the Nansha island chain, known internationally as the Spratlys.
The Spratly islands are a major cluster of potentially oil- and gas-rich islands and reefs long disputed by China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei.
Chinese and Philippine officials are still negotiating an end to a tense maritime dispute over the Scarborough Shoal, about 700 kilometers (400 miles) away, which has been going on for more than three months.

Cop relieved for refusing to make way for Aquino’s convoy
News About ClarkMANILA — A policeman was reportedly relieved from his post for allegedly refusing to make way to the convoy of President Benigno Aquino III along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City Tuesday.
The policeman was identified as Senior Police Officer 2 Ricardo Pascua.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the incident happened when the President was on his way back to Malacanang after attending the inauguration of the second phase of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s (MWSS) Angat Water Utilization and Aqueduct Improvement Project (AWUAIP) at the La Mesa Dam Portal in Lagro, Quezon City.
“We understand that there was a policeman who was driving a red Tamaraw and apparently the convoy was already on the way back,” Lacierda said.
“I think that’s somewhere in the House of Representatives area and the policeman was quite arrogant in insisting that he be allowed to do a U-turn whereas the convoy was already going straight. In fact, we understand that he even showed a badge to the motorcycle cops who were escorting the convoy,” he further said.
Lacierda refused to confirm that Pascua was sacked, saying that he was turned over to the Quezon City police department.
“We leave the administrative supervision of that policeman to the Quezon City police department,” Lacierda said
He added that Presidential Security Group Commander Brigadier General Ramon Matteo Dizon said that he filed a report to the Quezon City police for “disciplinary action.”
Dizon said he wondered why Pascua had refused to make way for the President’s convoy adding that he should have respected it.

LPA spotted in Central Luzon may become cyclone
News About ClarkMANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) spotted in Central Luzon has a chance to develop into a cyclone, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.
Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 2 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA was sighted at 1,030 kilometers east of Central Luzon, too far to affect weather conditions in Luzon.
He said the LPA has the possibility to turn into a tropical cyclone because it is still on the sea as it gains strength.

In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
“Residents living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes are advised to be alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides,” Pagasa said.
The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Capitol gives financial aid to 51 villages
News About ClarkCITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Provincial Government has provided financial assistance to at least 51 villages in Macabebe and Masantol towns, amounting to P255,000, for disaster preparation and other related activities.
The awarding of checks was spearheaded by Governor Lilia Pineda in two separate simple ceremonies attended by municipal and village officials the other day.
They were received by the Association Barangay Captains (ABC) presidents in behalf of their members.
The villages in the town of Macabebe got a total share of P125,000 while those in Masantol received P130,000.
As this developed, the village chieftains expressed their gratitude to Governor Pineda for her continuing support and assistance to the flood-affected families.
The financial assistance shall also be used in monitoring and assessment activities relating to disaster preparation and mitigation efforts.

Public warned vs water-borne diseases
News About ClarkCITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Provincial Health Office chief, reiterated his call for the public to remain vigilant on possible threats that might be brought about by water-borne diseases this rainy season.
“Inuulit ko yung warning natin lalo na sa residente dyan sa 4th District kung saan marami sa mga kababayan natin ang nakakaranas ng pagbaha. Mag-ingat po tayo sa mga sakit na pwede nating makuha dito,” Jaochico said.
He explained that if residents are not cautious this rainy season, there will be a high probability that they may suffer from various diseases.
Among the prevalent diseases during this season are dengue, leptospirosis, influenza and diarrhea.
In the City of San Fernando, a doctor who refused to be identified said there are about 40 dengue cases recorded in different villages here. This includes two fatalities from the villages of Sta. Lucia and Quebiawan.
In Sto. Tomas town, earlier reports recorded 30 individuals from Purok 1 in Moras Dela Paz village afflicted with dengue, with one casualty.
Mayor Joselito Naguit said the dengue outbreak is under control.
But a resident from Sto. Tomas said, “Dito po sa amin umabot na sa 40 ang nagkaroon ng dengue.”
“Isa pang dapat pag ingatan ng mga residente, lalo na yung nasa coastal towns, ay yung leptospirosis. Ito ay nakukuha sa ihi ng daga at posibling kumapit sa open wounds kapag lumulusong sa tubig baha,” Jaochico added.
“Residents from these flood-prone areas need to be properly informed on how the disease could be contracted,” the PHO chief said.

News About ClarkCITY OF SAN FERNANDO– An executive of a financing firm who was shot in front of his house by still unidentified assailants is now in critical condition.
Initial reports provided by police identified the victim as one Edgar Mallari of San Fernando Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Investigators said around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Mallari was backing up his car from his garage when unidentified men wearing bonnets shot the victim thrice, one hitting him in the head.
Mallari was rushed to the Makabali Medical Center in this city where he is currently at the intensive care unit.
Operatives and investigators are still conducting follow-up operations and are looking at two angles.
“One may be related to his work and the other is regarding an alleged controversial land dispute in the barangay,” investigators said

Suspects in Juico killing identified
News About ClarkCITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Warrants of arrest for three suspected killers of 24-year-old Raffy “Bidu” Juico are now being prepared after being identified by informants.
Juico went missing on June 29 this year and his “chopped” body was found buried inside a grassy portion of the Muslim Community in Cutud recently.
The names of the suspects are being withheld pending the serving of the arrest warrants, Muslim Community head Salman Ampuan said.
Ampuan, together with Muslim Affairs Community chairman Tammy Pagumpatun and other officials, met Governor Lilia Pineda at the Capitol on Monday to clarify their position.
He said they and the victim’s kin had agreed to jointly solve the case of Juico.
“Kami po ang pinagbibintangan nila. Wala kaming kinalaman diyan. Ang suspetsa namin ay droga ang problema. Pero sabi namin tutulong kami sa paghanap ng hustisya para kay Juico and we will let the process take its course,” Ampuan said.
Governor Pineda said she is not in the position to meddle in the case as she respects Mayor Oscar Rodriguez who has jurisdiction over the incident.
“Nirerespeto ko si Mayor Oca na siyang may jurisdiction dito. Ang sa akin lang ay dapat matigil na ang ganito at mabigyan ng hustisya ang biktima. I am sure si Mayor Oca ay tutugunan ito. Pantay-pantay lamang tayo, Muslim man o Kristiyano at kami ay handang tumulong sa inyo,” said Pineda.

Tarzan pushes for NorthRail completion

Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin has urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to fast-track the construction of the railway connecting Clark to Metro Manila as more airlines began serving local and international flights at the Clark International Airport (CIA).
Lazatin said Transportation and Communications Sec. Mar Roxas should exhaust all means to ensure the completion of the stalled Northrail project.
“A fast train should also be considered to ferry CIA passengers to and from Metro Manila,” said Lazatin.
In his earlier speech at the CIA, Roxas said Aquino has remained supportive of developments at Clark and its airport but admitted that the Northrail project “is back at the drawing board.”
The Northrail will connect Metro Manila to Clark, starting from Caloocan City.
Lazatin said “transportation via land, sea and air is important” in pushing for major developments.
“We don’t need to stress that the creation of Northrail will boost tremendous economic activities, especially in my district,” said Lazatin, whose jurisdiction includes Mabalacat, Angeles City and Magalang. Clark’s developed area of over 4,600 hectares is concentrated in Mabalacat and Angeles.
Lazatin said new airlines operating at Clark, including Philippines AirAsia and Hong-Kong-based Dragonair and AirPhil Express, “are very much welcome in Pampanga.”
He added that these airlines will help intensify major developments in Mabalacat under Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales.
The said town is set to be a city pending a plebiscite on July 21.
“I also asked residents to give their suggestions on how to better prepare Clark and its surrounding communities as more planes and their passengers are expected to land and stay in Pampanga,” said Lazatin.
