Group asks EdPam for probe on watershed destruction

ANGELES CITY — A group of environmentalists is urging Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan to conduct an investigation regarding the destruction of watershed areas in the city.

Sonny Dobles, head of the Alliance for the Development of Central Luzon, said the re-elected mayor ordered for an investigation to determine the cause of environmental problems like flooding, depletion of water supply, and others.

Pamintuan earlier told local media that residents of Sapang Bato are complaining about the scarce supply of potable water in their village.

The mayor said that experts are blaming the problem to the depleted underground water source in the area.

According to Dobles, the real cause of the problem is the denuding of forest areas and mountain ranges at the Clark Subzone.

Dobles said that the ongoing development by Dongwang Clark Corporation should be investigated.

Thousands of full-grown trees were cut by the Korean firm to give way to the construction of a world-class golf course, hotels and restaurants, and other amenities, according to him.

But officials of Dongwang earlier told Sun.Star Pampanga that no adult trees were removed in the area.

Part of the development is the planting of more trees to complement the golf course and the recreation area, the Korean firm stated.
