Tarzan hits Edpam group for public school use

ANGELES CITY–Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin requested the Department of Education (DepEd) to investigate reports that Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan’s Partido Abe Kapampangan (PAK) has been using public schools as venues for their political meetings and other events.
In a letter addressed to DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro, Lazatin revealed that he has received reports that PAK used the facilities of Pandan Elementary School, Sapalibutad Elementary School, and Northville Elementary School for their events, particularly their “bingo” games and formal political assemblies.
“Even if these events were done in good faith, it is still unbecoming for school administrators to allow their schools, especially public schools which are funded by taxpayers, to be used by political groups for their political agenda,” Lazatin said.
“Schools are the bastions of knowledge and they should remain fair and apolitical,” added Lazatin.
A copy of Lazatin’s letter was also furnished to DepEd Regional Director Isabelita Borres and DepEd Angeles City Division Superintendent Luz Arriola.
Earlier, Lazatin also appealed to President Benigno Aquino III to look into reports that some leaders of PAK have been threatening his supporters, who are beneficiaries of the national government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), that they will be removed from being beneficiaries of the 4Ps if they continue to support Lazatin.
The 4Ps is a program initiated by the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which seeks to improve the lives of poor Filipino families by investing in the health and education of poor households, especially children between the ages of 0 and 14 years. ●Charlene A.
