Ex-PhilHealth prexy chosen as outstanding Thomasian

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Former PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Reynaldo B. Aquino has been chosen as the recipient of The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL) Award in government and public service by the University of Sto. Tomas.
Aquino, who was a three-term mayor of this city and a one-term congressman of the province’s third district, will receive the award during the formal awarding ceremony on March 31 at the UST quadricentennial
pavilion.
You always uphold the Thomasian ideals of competence, compassion and commitment in your professional and personal endeavors, Fr. Rolando V. dela Rosa, UST rector, said in his letter to Aquino.
Aquino finished medicine from UST. After years of successful private practice, he was lured into politics, winning as vice mayor of the then capital town and eventually becoming an undefeated mayor for three terms.
During his watch, Aquino led in the conversion of San Fernando into a component city and promoted economic and business growth. After his mayoralty tenure, Aquino ran for Congress in 2004 and won.
He was appointed to the PhilHealth presidency by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2008. He expanded the universal health coverage of the agency, providing health coverage to the poorest of the poor.
