The Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012, presented by PLDT Alpha Enterprise now on its 5th year organized by the Subic Bay Yacht Club in conjunction with the Saturrday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing (SAGS) Club, the Lighthouse, Marina Resort, Watercraft Ventures, Inc. and Subic Bay Metropolitan authority under the auspices of Philippine Sailing Association, is officially starting on April 10 and will last up to April 14 2012.
This comes right after the prestigious Rolex China Sea race 2012 is a 565-nautical mile Race from Hong Kong to Subic Bay, Philippines.
This event draws some 30 international boats from the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
The Commodore’s Cup Regatta was first convened in 2008 by then SBYC Commodore, Ricky Sandoval. As it grew following and prestige it has become part of the Asian Yachting Circuit last 2010.
This has been one of the most coveted regattas in the country and with each successive race the event has become better, Sandoval also said “ the event will also showcase Subic Bay and the Philippines as among the world’s top sailing destinations with its clear waters and fine sand beaches”.
In 2011, the commodore’s Cup, was presented by Ricky Sandoval to Jude Echauz of Subic Centennial at the awards night held at Subic Yacht Club. The Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012 event will start with its registration, skippers briefing followed by a Welcome Party hosted by the Lighthouse Marina Resort on April 10. The race proper starts on April 11.
There will be an evening socials to be held at the SBYC piazza boardwalk on the same night together with the PLDT Alpha Enterprise Guests. April 12 to 13, daily race awards and socials will be held at the Lighthouse Marina resort. While the Awards night on April 14 with at the poolside of Subic Bay Yacht Club.
The perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall winners and of each class of IRC Racing Class, IRC Cruiser/racing Class, , IRC Premier Cruising Class and Cruising Class.

Bataan high school stages biggest earthquake drill
News About ClarkCITY OF BALANGA—Over 4,000 high school students of Bataan National High School (BNHS) ran for safety during the biggest earthquake drill conducted in a secondary school in the province.
Participating government agencies including the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police led the evaluation of the drill which simulated a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in the province’s
biggest secondary school.
The students all the way from their classrooms located in various buildings took 1.5 minutes evacuating to the central ground while on duck, cover and hold position.
City Public Safety Office (CPSO) supervisor Gerry Banzon noted that he found empty fire extinguisher boxes while the computer laboratory did not have its own fire extinguisher given that electronic equipment burn fast. Absence of medical kits also was also noticed.
“You have big buildings and a big population, you need crowd control to direct the students during a real earthquake,” said Banzon to the BNHS management.
The establishment of a school disaster management committee is also needed so there will be a specified group who will focus on executing preventive measures, suggested Teresita Señora, action officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
This group may also work together with a fire brigade team composed of students who will respond immediately in case of fire, said BFP fire officer Carlos Bugay who offered to teach the students in a seminar.
BNHS principal Dr. Simeona Emata assured that the suggestions will be deliberated in their faculty meeting most especially the procurement of fire extinguishers and the provision of medical kits in every
building.
“I assure you of the intense teaching that we will do to teach the students of the preventive measures. We will see to it to have a drill like this every quarter. If the students and teachers are not prepared, what will just happen to us?” said Emata.
The CPSO also conducted an earthquake drill in Tomas Del Rosario College in Balanga City where 1,500 high school and elementary students participated in the simulation of a magnitude 5 tremor. ● (PIA-3)

Blue Eagle, Fil-Chi group donate 8 classrooms to Pampanga towns
News About ClarkAPALIT, Pampanga – The Blue Eagle Foundation, Incorporated, headed by Lirius Quezon, in coordination with the San Fernando Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (SFFCCII), led by its President Eddie Chua, turned-over eight classrooms under their “Barrio School Program” to the local government units of San Simon and this town.
The turn-over was witnessed by Governor Lilia G. Pineda, Board Members Nestor Tolentino and Fritzie David-Dizon last week.
Chua said the SFFCCII and the Blue Eagle Foundation had initiated the construction of two classrooms in San Vicente Central Elementary School in this town and four classrooms in Sto. Niño Elementary School and two classrooms in San Agustin Elementary School, both in San Simon town.
Chua bared the two classrooms in San Vicente Central Elementary School here were funded by the Blue Eagle foundation.
Quezon said the Blue Eagles’ fund for the two classrooms came from the proceeds of the 3rd Charity Golf Tournament, which was supported by the municipal and provincial government.
“We have only P300,000 and we do not have the resources and manpower to construct the two classrooms, hence, I coordinated with the officials of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce to make this project realized. So, I thanked the Filipino–Chinese led by President Chua,” Quezon stressed.
Quezon disclosed that their first plan is to build a computer laboratory, however, upon inspection, they have observed that a state of the art computer laboratory is already existing.
Hence, she furthered, they have changed their plan to build two new classrooms for the school as suggested by the principal.
Pineda and Mayor Oscar Tetangco, Jr. had expressed their gratitude to SFFCCI and Blue Eagle Alumni Foundation Inc. for choosing Pampanga as recipient of the “Barrio School Program”.
Tetangco said the classrooms in San Vicente are being used for dual purpose—classrooms for the students and evacuation centers for the families affected by floods during calamities as this school is not prone to perennial flooding.

Village chief challenges EdPam to debate

Thus said Barangay Claro M. Recto Chairman Valentino “Val” Lagman on November 20 as he challenged Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan to a public debate in order to show Angeleños “just who exactly is telling the truth”.
Lagman issued the challenge during his guest appearance in the radio program of veteran mediaman Medardo “Med” David and said that Pamintuan can even decide when and where the debate would be held.
The challenge from Lagman resulted from a series of press statements released by Pamintuan calling Lagman out for supposedly lying about the Pamintuan administration permitting a waste disposal company to dump its wastes in the city’s creeks and river.
Lagman said that he never issued such a statement, “Ang sinabi ko ay maraming establisyimento, partikular na sa may Fields Avenue, ang hindi na kumukuha ng serbisyo mula sa mga waste disposal company dahil itinatapon na lamang nila ang dumi sa mga creek,” Lagman said, “Sinabi ko rin na ito ay ginagawa na noon pang mga nakaraang administrasyon”.
Lagman said that he has already clarified this but Pamintuan still chose to ride with the controversy, going so far as to say that he only met Lagman in 1992 when he first ran for Mayor and Lagman wanted to be in his councilor lineup.
“Napakasinungaling ni Mayor Pamintuan,” Lagman said, “Noon pang tumakbo siya bilang Vice Mayor ay sinuportahan ko na siya at ngayon ay sasabihin niya na noong 1992 lang niya ako nakilala?”

News About ClarkIn commemoration of World TB Day on March 24, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is reaffirming its commitment to help the Philippine government eradicate the deadly disease.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne and infectious disease. The majority of TB deaths have been recorded in developing countries and the disease is closely linked to substandard housing, poor nutrition, and other social determinants of health. The Philippines currently has the 9th largest burden of tuberculosis in the world: approximately 390,000 Filipinos who have TB and 75 people die daily from this curable disease.
In a recent message delivered by USAID/Philippines Mission Director Gloria Steele, she said, that USAID is working with the Philippine government in implementing TB prevention and control activities to assist the country in meeting its TB objective as outlined in the Philippines Development Plan for 2011-2016.
”We are partnering with the National TB Control Program (NTCP) and the Department of Health (DOH) in strengthening the public and private sectors’ capacities to implement DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-Course), the internationally recommended strategy for TB control.”
USAID’s Linking Initiatives and Networking to Control U.S. Reaffirms Commitment to Eradicate Tuberculosis in the Philippines- U.S. Embassy, Manila.
Tuberculosis (TB LINC) Project is a five-year initiative aimed at sustaining the coordination and collaboration of TB control partners from both the public and private sectors. The project provides technical assistance to the National TB Program and works directly with high TB prevalence and low-performing provinces and cities throughout the country, including the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Implemented by DOH, the project supports the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals to reduce TB prevalence and mortality by half by 2015, by helping the government achieve the targets of 70 percent case detection rate and 90 percent treatment success rate.
Activities supported by TB LINC for this year’s World TB Day commemoration include the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between Caloocan City and Smart Communications, Inc. for the implementation of Secured Health Information Network and Exchange (SHINE TB) to provide better care for TB patients; TB awareness forums in Laguna and Tawi-Tawi; and MOU Signing on Pharmacy DOTS in Lamitan, Basilan.
Together with its work in the Philippines, USAID’s partnership with national TB control programs in 41 countries has prevented the spread of the disease and the development of drug resistance.
USAID also supports research to improve existing approach to TB control or develop new tools and facilitates their uptake at country level. As a result, in 2011, 3.8 million tuberculosis cases were detected in countries supported by USAID—a 51 percent increase since 2000. The United States will continue to work with our partners to fight this deadly disease.
We are supporting programs that are saving lives and fostering a more secure world, focusing our efforts in countries where the burden of the disease is highest,” Ms Steele said. President Obama and Secretary Clinton have prioritized global health and human welfare.

News About ClarkSUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and business locators and community organizations here have pooled resources to put up a week-long program for visitors coming over for the Holy Week this year.
“Just as we have traditionally done for the past several years, we have lined up week-long activities in observance of the Holy Week,” said Raul Marcelo, SBMA deputy administrator for tourism. “But this year, we have doubled our efforts to pack in more events because we anticipate more visitors starting April 1.”
Marcelo said that aside from traditional Lenten activities, the SBMA and its community partners have also included new and contemporary activities in the Holy Week program. Marcelo also emphasized the major participation of the Greater SubicBay Tourism Bureau (GSBTB), which will be conducting a trade fair for different concessionaires of Central Luzon products.
This will run from April 4 to 8 (Holy Wednesday to Easter Sunday). GSBTB will also stage an acoustic night on April 4 and 5, and “Hataw Sayaw” dance competition on Black Saturday, April 7.
Holy Week activities in Subic will kick off with the Blessing of the Palms on April 1, and will be followed by the traditional “Pabasa” at the Subic Chapel. The “Pabasa” will run until April 7. On Holy Wednesday, a grand procession will be staged around theCentral Business District of the free port, while the re-enactment of the “Last Supper” and mass will be on April 5. On April 6, tourists and devotees may participate in the Lenten ritesof the Walk to Calvary, the Stations of the Cross, and Veneration at the Cross. There will also be the Good Friday grand procession and a “healing concert” by the Bethesda Springs of Hope Healing Ministry.
Meanwhile, Black Saturday will feature a “Healing through the Way ofthe Cross Meditation,” as well as the Paschal Mystery, and Black Saturday concert at Subic’s Boardwalk Park. The Holy Week observance will end with the traditional “Salubong” andEaster Mass, which will be followed by an egg-hunting activity for children and the release of Easter banners and balloons.
Marcelo said that tourism information kiosks manned by the SBMA Tourist Department staff will be put up along major routes for the convenience of tourists seeking tourism-related information. Emergency response team, traffic and law enforcers will also be onstandby along Subic Bay Freeport roads throughout the Holy Week.

DEDICATED LANE FOR SUBIC-BOUND MOTORISTS
News About ClarkSUBIC BAY FREEPORT – To ease the traffic going to the Subic Bay Freeport this Holy Week, the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) will provide a dedicated lane for motorists bound to this free port beginning Holy Wednesday, April 4, up to Holy Thursday, April 5.
The dedicated Subic lane will begin at the Balintawak toll plaza and the Mindanao Avenue link of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) toll plaza in Dau, Tipo Exit, and the Tipo Expressway toll plaza.
Under this scheme, motorists would only make a one-time payment of P408 at the Balintawak toll plaza, which would cover the toll fees for the rest of the trip. They will be given stubs which will be collected at each successive tollway exit.
However, the dedicated Subic lane will only be good for a one-way trip to the Subic Bay Freeport. Normal toll rates will apply for trips going back to Manila.
According to Raul Marcelo, deputy administrator for business and tourism of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), this scheme initiated by the MNTC will save motorists’ time.
“When you pay P408 at the dedicated Subic lane in Balintawak, you get your stubs, and when you exit at Dau, you simply hand back the stub. So there’s no need for you to pay, there’s no need for you to wait for change, and there’s no need for you to get your receipt. You just hand over the stub. This would save you a lot of time,” Marcelo elaborated.
Marcelo also said that the unified toll fee will help ease traffic congestion at Subic, which has long been recognized as a tourist destination. “The MNTC is now focused on the problem regarding motor vehicle traffic to Subic… meaning they know that Subic is a major destination especially during holidays and long weekends. The dedicated lane in Balintawak is ample proof that Subic, as a summer getaway, is really a certified hit,” he added.
Marcelo also said that although the unified toll fee plan for Subic is a new development, he is hoping that this would be made a permanent arrangement. “I’ll definitely be pushing for this, especially when we have major events in Subic,” he stressed.
He pointed out that last year, close to 30,000 motor vehicles came to Subic via the SCTEX, bringing in some 120,000 tourists during the Holy Week.

MEDICINE SUPPLY PROGRAM FOR AYTA TRIBE
News About ClarkSUBIC BAY FREEPORT— In a gesture of its commitment to support the community service program of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Philip Morris International (PMI) provided the indigenous Ayta tribe in the Subic Bay Freeport with medicines worth P125,000, the first batch to be given under the firm’s medicine donation program.
Philip Morris, which operates its regional leaf tobacco warehouse in this free port, turned over several boxes of various medicines and vitamins to the Aytas of Pastolan Village here through Atty. Wilma Eisma, manager of local regulatory affairs and community relations ofPhilip Morris Phils. Manufacturing Inc. (PMPMI).
The donation was received on behalf of the tribesmen by Armina Belleza-Llamas, manager of the SBMA Public Relations Department. Belleza said that Philip Morris also committed to replenish themedicine supply on a quarterly basis for the next five years.
SBMA Chairman Roberto Garcia said that the PMI medicine donation clearly manifests the continuing commitment of the company, in partnership with local delivery service provider Air21, to help the indigenous people living inside the Freeport area.
”Philip Morris, along with the Air21, has always been a partner of the SBMA in its many community service projects that seek to expand health and educational assistance to the communities around the Subic Bay Freeport,” Garcia noted.
Eisma said meanwhile that the donation “is only part of our commitment to the community in support of the health and wellness program of the SBMA for the Ayta tribal community in Pastolan, especially the children.”
In August 2011, some 200 children and 100 mothers in the Pastolan Ayta village received free medical check-up and medicines during the launching of a medical clinic program initiated by the SBMA, PhilipMorris Philippines Inc., Air21 and Jaycees International.
In January 2008, PMPI also donated textbooks and computer sets to public schools in Pastolan, as well as barangay Kalalake in OlongapoCity in partnership with the Knowledge Channel .

News About ClarkThe Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012, presented by PLDT Alpha Enterprise now on its 5th year organized by the Subic Bay Yacht Club in conjunction with the Saturrday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing (SAGS) Club, the Lighthouse, Marina Resort, Watercraft Ventures, Inc. and Subic Bay Metropolitan authority under the auspices of Philippine Sailing Association, is officially starting on April 10 and will last up to April 14 2012.
This comes right after the prestigious Rolex China Sea race 2012 is a 565-nautical mile Race from Hong Kong to Subic Bay, Philippines.
This event draws some 30 international boats from the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
The Commodore’s Cup Regatta was first convened in 2008 by then SBYC Commodore, Ricky Sandoval. As it grew following and prestige it has become part of the Asian Yachting Circuit last 2010.
This has been one of the most coveted regattas in the country and with each successive race the event has become better, Sandoval also said “ the event will also showcase Subic Bay and the Philippines as among the world’s top sailing destinations with its clear waters and fine sand beaches”.
In 2011, the commodore’s Cup, was presented by Ricky Sandoval to Jude Echauz of Subic Centennial at the awards night held at Subic Yacht Club. The Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012 event will start with its registration, skippers briefing followed by a Welcome Party hosted by the Lighthouse Marina Resort on April 10. The race proper starts on April 11.
There will be an evening socials to be held at the SBYC piazza boardwalk on the same night together with the PLDT Alpha Enterprise Guests. April 12 to 13, daily race awards and socials will be held at the Lighthouse Marina resort. While the Awards night on April 14 with at the poolside of Subic Bay Yacht Club.
The perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall winners and of each class of IRC Racing Class, IRC Cruiser/racing Class, , IRC Premier Cruising Class and Cruising Class.

News About ClarkSUBIC BAY FREEPORT — A full complement of environment-friendly activities marked the observance of the global Earth Hour in this free port, as stakeholders here tried to instill environmental protection in the community beyond the call to switch off lights to symbolically focus attention on climate change.
Residents, business locators, and community groups here joined the global program to save Mother Earth through a ceremony at The Lighthouse Marina Resort, which signalled the hour-long switching off of lights and other electrical appliances, particularly in the Central Business District here.
Before this, however, the Subic Bay Freeport community also participated in a beach clean-up, the opening of the Kicksand Beach Football Luzon leg at the Boardwalk Park area, and the re-launch of Ocean Adventure’s high dive event.
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman and Administrator Roberto Garcia said the various activities before the Earth Hour indicated the support to the global call for sustainable development and conservation not only from his agency, which manages the free port, but also from the various sectors in the community.
“Everyone here in the Subic Bay Freeport – employees, investors, business locators, workers, and residents – we all do our share in our own little way. And with these little efforts, we hope to make a big difference in protecting the environment,” Garcia said.
Earth Hour, which is organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is held annually from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of March.
According to WWF, this year’s Earth Hour focused on establishing commitments to bring down greenhouse gas emissions and help slow down climate change.
The Earth Hour project in Subic was jointly spearheaded by the SBMA Ecology Center and the Redondo Peninsula Energy Incorporated (RPEI), in cooperation with the Lighthouse Marina Resort Hotel, where the symbolic switching off of lights was held.
