U.S. envoy recognizes support of the golf course owner in AC

ANGELES CITY – As a gesture of appreciation for His support to the U.S. Embassy Golf Club (USEGC), a city businessman, golfer has been invited by no less than the United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas to be the sponsored guest at the club’s charity golf tournament to be held in July.

Thomas’ invitation to Ruperto “Perto” Cruz, co-owner and designer of the Royal Garden Golf and Country Club (RGGCC) here, was relayed by Jeff Scearce, the U.S. Embassy’s director for finance and current president of the USEGC.

“On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, Ambassador Harry Thomas wants to express appreciation for His (Cruz’s) gracious hosting of our tournament in Angeles City,” said Scearce.

He also gave a plaque of appreciation to Mike Cruz, brother of Ruperto, for supporting their tournament held at the 18-hole all-weather championship golf course.

Scearce announced that the U.S. Independence Day 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be sponsored Cruz where the guest is set on July 4 at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.

USEGC holds the annual road trip and tournament and the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac and at the RGGCC for two consecutive days. Sahres ownership of the cross with His Korean partner RGGCC Nam Suek.

And the leg Luisita last November 15, lady golfer Diana Urmeneta of Makati City emerged as the over-all champion, and placed third and won the tournament by Efren RGGCC Alvez.

AC commemorates Rizal’s 151st birthday

RIZAL’S BIRTHDAY. Acting Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting together with the Order of the Knights of Rizal headed by Supreme Commander Reghis M. Romero II lead the wreath-laying rites in commemoration of Dr.. Jose Rizal’s 151st birthday at the City Hall compound during Monday’s flag raising ceremony.

ANGELES CITY – The local government unit here, together with the Order of the Knights of Rizal (KOR), simple rites observed in honor of the celebration of the 151st birthday of our national hero, Dr.. Jose Rizal.

Acting Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting led the wreath laying ceremonies and was joined by the officers and members of KOR headed by their Supreme Commander Reghis Romero and the flag raising rites held Monday at the Quezon City Hall Compound.

In her speech at the celebration, Vega-Cabigting said that Rizal is a great example for displaying the Filipino spirit through His selflessness and love for the country.

“Let us not Allow the death of Rizal to die in the current generation. Should not the death symbolize our loss of hope, but a challenge to manifest Should employees of the city government on how They can put a ‘death’ to complacency in the workplace, “Vega-Cabigting said.

For His part, Romero relived the life of our national hero through a short story detailing how Rizal’s values from childhood until His death Should be emulated by Filipinos everywhere.

“We Should emulate the heroism of Dr. Rizal, whose supreme sacrifice paved the way for the freedom the country enjoys, “Romero said.

He added that “the love of country is the most heroic Which value we can display.”

Romero also lauded Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and administration in giving His importance in the commemoration of the birth and death of Rizal every year.

Gov, Manila dads endurance race athlete support CDC

CLARK FREEPORT – The Provincial Council has recently passed and approved a resolution that supports a senior legal officer of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) in His bid to compete in a grueling endurance race in the United States this June 23 to 24.

Sponsored by Board Members Crisostomo Garbo and Raul Macalino, the SP approved Resolution 2627 or “A resolution authorizing Governor Lilia G. To grant Mr. Pineda. Jonnifer M. Lacanlale financial assistance in the amount of fifty thousand dollars chargeable against the current appropriations allotted for youth / sports development programs under the non-office account of the office of the governor. ”

Lacanlale will be flying to the United States to represent the Philippines in the grueling 160-kilometer Western States Endurance Run 100 Miles (WS100).

His participation in this endurance competition would make him the first Filipino to qualify and, hopefully, finish the prestigious 30-hour race, dubbed as the “granddaddy” or the oldest, most historical trail race in America.

One of the senior lawyers of the CDC Legal Department, Lacanlale has competed in a number of local and international endurance races, Which include the 160-kilometer trail race “Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc (UTMB) where he was the first of two Filipinos to ever finish the race held from August 26 to 27, 2011.

The UTMB was widely regarded as “the most difficult foot race in Europe.”

He was also the only Filipino to have competed and finished, in November 2010, the Great North walks (GNW 100) – regarded as the toughest trail race in Australia.

Among the recent local races he competed in was the 102-kilometer ultramarathon Bataan Death March (BDM 102K) held this year, where was declared champion and course record holder.

In 2011, Lacanlale ran the BDM BDM 160k and 102K, Which were only one week apart but was still able to bag the “Grand Slam Award” back-to-back for both native races that traversed the actual route of the World War II Bataan Death march.

Magnitude 6 quake jolts Central

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO-A magnitude 6 earthquake hit some provinces in Luzon including Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan on Sunday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was traced 80 kilometers southwest of Candelaria, Zambales. The quake occurred around 6:18 AM.

Intensity 4 was felt in the towns of Candelaria, Other, Sta. Cruz, Masinloc, Zambales in Subic, Dagupan City, Bugallon, Villasis and Bolinao in Pangasinan, and in Makati City.

Rains halt classes in Manila, Ipo dam water spills

SANTIAGO CITY-Heavy rains on Sunday night to Monday morning led officials in Manila to suspend classes in selected schools yesterday.

Provincial Administrator Jim Valerio said that as early 6 am yesterday, Mayor Gabriel ORENCIO town of Obando declared suspension of classes in all levels in His town.

The schools covered included the Bulacan Polytechnic College (BPC) campus in Obando town along with elementary and high schools.

Valerio said that the most part of Obando went underwater due to heavy rains Which aggravated the daily rise of tidal water.

In Norzagaray town, Mayor Feliciano Legazpi also suspended classes in elementary and high schools due to heavy rains.

Classes in elementary schools were suspended in the mountain town of Doña Remedios Trinidad.

In the coastal town of Hagonoy, school administrators decided to suspend classes in elementary and high school due to heavy rains and high tide.

In Manila, classes were also suspended in Barangays Great, Tikay, Sumapang Adults and other low lying villages.

Aquino-probe Dempsey ‘agreement’ on Clark, Subic

Mayor eyes 4 major priorities for soon-to-be Mabalacat City

MABALACAT — Mayor Marino Morales revealed Monday four major priorities he will push for once Mabalacat becomes a component city after the plebiscite to be held soon.

Republic Act 10164, declaring Mabalacat as the third city of Pampanga, after Angeles and San Fernando, was signed recently by President Benigno Aquino III.

The Cityhood Bill was sponsored by first district Representative Carmelo Lazatin and supported by Morales, who earlier thanked Senators Lito Lapid, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Tito Soto, Franklin Drilon and Jinggoy Estrada.

“Within a month, we will know if the people will accept or refuse the cityhood proposal, which we are hopeful majority if not all, will approve. Nevertheless, we are forward-looking and the four priorities on my list are the expansion of the Community College; the restructuring and reconstruction of the central materials recovery facility (MRF); the establishment of a public memorial park; and the improvement of birthing stations,” Morales told Sun.Star Pampanga.

He added: “It is important to expand the Community College because we want Mabalaqueños to have good quality but affordable education as we prepare for an expected economic boom. Then as part of our enhanced solid waste management, we must improve our MRF too. Of course, the memorial park and birthing stations are vital components of our strengthened basic services delivery.”

The four priorities, Morales added, are on top of plans that include the Mabalacat public market, a “Triple A” slaughterhouse, lighting of major roadways and a central business district.

A stimulus funding of P500 million, he noted, was already allocated for the development of major infrastructure projects to complement the turning of Mabalacat town into a city.

Morales earlier embarked on a beautification plan for Mabalacat town expected to become a full-fledge city by 2013, the same year the town will celebrate its 300th founding anniversary.

“After 300 years, Mabalacat will be a component city complete with an international airport, a freeport and modern expressways,” he quipped.

“With this projected structures, Mabalacat will become the center of trade in Pampanga because it will play a major role in the development of the Clark International Airport. Also, more hotels will be built in Mabalacat to accommodate the influx of tourists,” said Morales.

Angeles City commemorates Rizal’s 151st birthday

ANGELES CITY — The City Government, together with the Order of the Knights of Rizal (KOR), led the people Monday in honoring national hero Dr. Jose Rizal during the simple celebration of his 151st birthday.

Acting Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting led the wreath laying ceremonies at the City Hall. She was joined by officers and members of the KOR headed by their Supreme Commander Reghis Romero.

In her speech, Vega-Cabigting said Rizal is an example of Filipino spirit through his selflessness and love for the country.

“Let us not allow the death of Rizal to die in the current generation. The death should not symbolize our loss of hope, but should manifest a challenge to employees of the city government on how they can put a ‘death’ to complacency in the workplace,” Vega-Cabigting said.

For his part, Romero narrated Rizal’s life and works through a short story detailing that the hero’s values from childhood until his death should be emulated by Filipinos everywhere.

“We should emulate the heroism of Dr. Rizal, whose supreme sacrifice paved the way for the freedom the country enjoys,” Romero said.

He added that “the love of country is the most heroic value that we can display.”

Romero also lauded Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and his administration in giving importance in the commemoration of the birth and death of Rizal every year.

At present, the KOF has 15 active chapters in Angeles City, which members come from the Philippine National Police, the business sector, senior citizens, officials from the Tropang Crime Watch and other public and private organizations.

Republic Act 646 officially recognizes the Order of the Knights of Rizal as a convenient instrumentality by which the teachings of our national hero may be propagated among our people to the end that they emulate and follow his examples.

Rizal, a polymath, patriot and prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era, was executed by a firing squad of the Spanish rulers on December 30, 1896.
