CITY OF SAN FERNANDO \u2013The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office here sees a steady tourism growth in Central Luzon this year.
\nDOT regional director Ronaldo Tiotuico said they expect tourist arrivals to continuously increase as marked with the good performance in the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first three months of the year showed a good start in the local tourism industry and we expect a steady increase to continue throughout the year for both local and foreign tourists,\u201d Tiotuico said.<\/p>\n
DOT data showed that local and foreign tourists that visited the region in January reached to 71,131.
\nIn February and March, tourist arrivals were registered at 61,215 and 65,325, respectively.<\/p>\n
With this summer season, the DOT official said more tourists are visiting the region\u2019s top destinations.
\nOur region is becoming a favorite destination by tourists because it offers awesome natural and man-made tourist attractions, nice beaches, hot spring resorts and colorful festivals, he said.<\/p>\n
He particularly cited the wave pools in Bulacan and beaches in Zambales and Baler where surfing competitions are being held during summer season.<\/p>\n
Likewise, Tiotuico underscored the importance of DOT-DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) convergence project that would further boost the tourism growth in the region.<\/p>\n
The DOT-DPWH convergence project implements tourism road infrastructure program.<\/p>\n
These are road projects leading to tourist destinations in the region, Tiotuico said as he cited as example the road improvements of the Friendship Highway going to Clark International Airport, Biak na Bato in San Miguel, Bulacan and the one going to Baler, Aurora.<\/p>\n
With this, he said the DOT-3 is upbeat to meet its target 10-percent increase in tourist arrivals this year.
