LUBAO — Governor Lilia Pineda and San Fernando City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez recently inspected the on-going waste-to-energy or green power plant in this town.
\nThe two executives were accompanied by Board Members Nestor Tolentino, Crisostomo Garbo and Rolly Macalino, who just came from an observation trip from Germany with Mackay Green Energy in Brussels.
\nThe Phase 1 of the green power plant was complete, according to Garbo.
\nPhase 1 is located in a 25-hectare area within Lubao\u2019s materials recovery facility, he added.
\n\u201cIn the dry run we conducted a couple of weeks ago, the first part of the plant produced green energy enough to provide power to two barangays. We shall soon move to phase two,\u201d he said.
\nGarbo described the Mackay concept, which is already widely used in European countries, as using the indirectly fired gas turbine technology, the Exner waste processing system, and extracting renewable fuel from the pyrolysis of recovered plastic.
\nTolentino said, \u201cThe system is compliant with RA 9003. This facility could take in as much 800 metric tons of unsegregated garbage to produce 22 megawatts (MW) of renewable green electricity per day. It\u2019s absolutely environment friendly.\u201d
\nPineda and Rodriguez said they are coordinating to solve the province\u2019s garbage problems using the facility, as well as that of San Fernando\u2019s Biosphere project.
