SUBIC Bay Freeport: Camayan beach resort clarified yesterday that they did all the best to attend to a 3-year-old boy who was stung by a box jelly fish over the weekend.
\nJeremy Simpson Creative Arts and Communication Director of Camayan Beach resort said that both standby lifeguard and nurse attended to the medical needs of the victim.
\n\u201cThe lifeguard was at the scene in seconds and the boy was up and walking in less than 2 minutes,\u201d He added.
\nHe added that the 3-year-old victim walked from the beach shore to the hotel after the incident.
\n\u201cWe assisted them in bringing the boy to St. Jude hospital, because the pediatric doctor was there.\u201d Simpson said.
\n\u201cAn area of the sea is roped off to keep swimmers within sight and earshot of the lifeguards but it is only a rope-not a net and it doesn\u2019t keep out any of the animals whose habitat we are borrowing.\u201d Simpson added.
\nSignage to warn beach goers according to Simpson are posted in specific areas, \u201cbut we are considering putting up new ones,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cWhen you enter the water you share it with quarter of a million species and one of them unfortunately is jelly fish.\u201d He added.
\nEmily Boutet the mother of the victim told subictimes.com over the phone that they did not see any signage.
\n\u201cI just couldn\u2019t believe that they said that there are signage\u2019s. We have walked down their beach several times but didn\u2019t see any. None in the room too, I only saw signage about monkeys and turtles,\u201d Boutet said.
\nBoutet added that they have visited Camayan six times already before the incident happened and explained that \u201cI\u2019d like guest to be informed about the risk and that we would have received more sympathy from top management, after the incident happened.\u201d
\nShe also acknowledged that the lifeguard responded immediately and that she even gave chocolates to the lifeguard to thank them.
\n\u201cI am truly grateful to the lifeguard who responded and attended to my son,\u201d she added.
\nBut Boutet said that if they knew in the first place that there was Jelly fish, she would not let her kids go swimming.
\n\u201cWe were not treated properly by some of the management staff, inappropriate words was said in a wrong situation, anyone would be looking for comfort in that kind of situation, instead staff there were insensitive.\u201d she added.
\nBoutet added that Camayan should inform their guest properly upon check in, put leaflets in the room and put signage in strategic place where everyone could see.
\n\u201cThey should also have emergency vehicle on standby anytime.\u201d she added.
\nBouted said that her son is doing good despite the incident and is now in the hospital for medical checkup.
\nSimpson explained that Camayan prides itself with good service which include a well-trained life guard and first responders and can help get patients to professional medical help at one of many hospitals.
