\n\u201cEach CHD was given a time frame of 18 months to be ISO certified. But we, in the [Center for Health Development 3], are targeting the certification for just seven months,\u201d Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon stated.
\nTaking part on the journey for ISO certification, the CHD 3 conducted series of orientations and trainings for all the employees, from the security personnel to the regional director.
\nThese activities aim to make sure that all employees understand well why the whole DOH, not only the CHD 3, need to institutionalize a Quality Management System (QMS) certifiable to ISO 9001:2008.
\nThe regional director, as the Quality Management Representative (QMR), recognizes the value of being ISO certified, stating that it is to ensure global competitiveness, gain the citizen\u2019s trust and confidence and align the department\u2019s vision with the current thrust of the national government on good governance and anti-corruption.
\nSome significant benefits of being ISO certified would be better image of the DOH, improved planning and performance review, improved communication, clearly defined interface among offices and fact-based decisions.
\nThese will all be possible through the eight QMS principles necessary for the organization to have an effective and efficient system, developed by the ISO technical committee 176.
\nThe principles are client focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, system approach, continual improvement, factual approach to decision making and mutually beneficial supplier relationship.
\nThe DOH is considered to be the first government agency to have a department-wide ISO QMS certification and is now regarded to be the biggest organization eying for the ISO certification.
