MEXICO, Pampanga — Mayor Teddy Tumang said recently that he is \u201cofficially backing out of the vice-gubernatorial race in 2013.\u201d<\/p>\n

In talks with Tumang at Northwalk 1 two days ago, and whose brother Alex, an architect gunning for the mayoralty post of this town, he told Sun.Star Pampanga \u201cbigwigs\u201d have discussed with him the possible scenario in 2013 for the post, where two other prominent and strong candidates would contest the position, Senator Lito Lapid\u2019s son Maynard, as one, plus another contender from Lubao.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have discussed the matter and in the name of friendship and long lasting ties, I am giving way to political plans of \u2018friends\u2019 in 2013,\u201d Tumang told Sun.Star Pampanga.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindi naman ako mahirap kausap pagdating sa kapakanan ng probinsiya,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

It was unclear, though, what Tumang would eye for 2013 as a trade off for the \u201cexchange deal.\u201d The mayor has been consistently under attack by critics like incumbent Vice-Mayor Roy Manalastas and Councilor Rex Calma for alleged anomalies. The officials are reportedly ready to challenge the Tumangs in next year\u2019s polls.<\/p>\n

\u201cBayaan muna iyun. Ang importante ngayon ay ang Pampanga. Kung kailangan nating magbigay daan, gagawin natin,\u201d said Tumang, professing no regrets on his early intent for the post to be vacated by Vice Governor Joseller Guiao who is keen on the First District Congressional seat.
