CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is expected to save the government a total of P1.04 billion in operating costs in the next 10 years, as a result of the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) arrangements it has initiated.
\nForeign Affairs Undersecretary for Administration Rafael Seguis told Sun.Star Pampanga in an exclusive interview that the savings cover an initial 16 consular offices across the country that would occupy more than 7,000 square meters of prime space in DFA partner malls.
\nThe DFA recently started arrangements with Robinsons Land Corporation, Pacific Mall Corporation, Ayala Land Incorporated and SM Prime Holdings for the establishment of mall-based consular and processing offices in key areas all over the country.
\nThe agency also recently opened a 995-square-meter facility at Robinsons Starmills here, the biggest in Luzon outside of Metro Manila, and will soon open another office at a mall in Angeles City.
\nThe undersecretary said the DFA expects to generate more savings once it concludes negotiations with its private sector partners for the hosting of its remaining consular offices.
\nHe said the agency wants all its existing consular offices in the provinces to be serving the public in shopping malls in major cities nationwide by 2014.
