CITY OF SAN FERNANDO \u2013 The first batch of graduates of the City College of San Fernando, who happens to be persons with disabilities, received their diplomas during graduation rites Wednesday.
\nA teary-eyed City of San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez was embraced and endlessly thanked by parents and graduates themselves, 34 of who belong to \u201cGelingan Batch 2012\u201d of the Special Education course.
\nThe batch made it through the three-year computer hardware servicing program even if they are persons with disabilities as they were hearing impaired and mute.
\n\u201cThe City College of San Fernando and Mayor Oscar Rodriguez had given us this rare opportunity and supported, guided us through despite the challenges before us. Indeed, we are the proof that there is hope for us as we now move ahead into the real world,\u201d said 1st Honor and Academic Excellence awardee Aristotle Nabung, whose speech in sign language was translated by a professor of the batch.
\nFor Rodriguez, it was a moment of great fulfillment.
\n\u201cIt is indeed fulfilling that we now have products of the City College. From here, they would be provided employment and some could start their own businesses at home because of the skills they acquired. Definitely, the City College will continue with its mandate, additional programs and thrusts in providing quality education since it is open to the nearby ten towns and practically to all Kapampangans. We are very happy about our graduates,\u201d he told Sun.Star Pampanga.
\nVice Mayor Edwin Santiago added that the graduates and the City College itself are proofs of good governance.
\n\u201cThis first batch of graduates with the will and determination to excel is the realization of our vision and mission. The City College itself is a concrete example of good governance. It has established that foundation for the youth will be useful in their lives,\u201d he said.
\nAlso recognized during the commencement exercises were hundreds of honor students under the Oscar awards.
