ARAYAT \u2013 Local leaders in three villages here have expressed their worry for the safety of their constituents as the damages to several portions of the major dike here remain unattended several months after the recent typhoons.
\nNazario Vinuya, village chief in Mapalad, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) failed to rehabilitate the scourged portion of the Arayat-Apalit setback levee in their area, despite continuing request made by them.
\nVinuya said the dike was destroyed in the latter part of last year when the province was bombarded by a series of
\ntyphoons.
\nHe said if the same volume of water during Typhoon Pedring will again cross the Pampanga River, thousands are threatened to be displaced considering that the damage sustained by the dike is yet to be addressed by the DPWH.
\nVinuya likewise cited that the dike\u2019s portion in Barangay Batasan is also in the same condition.
\n\u201cKapag malakas na ang ulan ay binabantayan na namin ang aming lugar. Bente-kuatro oras na ang ginagawa naming monitoring para hindi kami mabigla ng pagdating ng tubig,\u201d he said.
